Japan Airlines (JAL) has signed a new codeshare partnership with Air Astana covering their domestic networks and travel between Japan and Kazakhstan.


As part of the agreement, both airlines will place their respective flight codes – JL and KC – on Air Astana's planned new route route between Almaty and Tokyo scheduled to start in the spring of 2026, and each carriers' domestic flights.


Within Japan, the JAL routes covered in the partnership include flights from Tokyo to the following cities – Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Naha (Okinawa), and Sapporo. Astana and Atyrau are the two Air Astana destinations covered in the partnership.


“Our collaboration with Japan Airlines is an exciting development that will enrich our international network and offer more travel options for our customers. We look forward to delivering a seamless travel experience for passengers between Kazakhstan and Japan,” said Air Astana Group CEO Peter Foster.


“We are delighted to enter into cooperation with such a distinguished partner as Air Astana. We will contribute to further enhancement of over 30 years of diplomatic relationship between Japan and Kazakhstan, through developing passenger and cargo traffic,” said Japan Airlines GROUP CEO Mitsuko Tottori.
